Artofoke contemporary paintings and photography

Welcome

Artofoke is a family business specialising in the supply and production of contemporary paintings and photography for the home or workplace.
We can produce paintings to order in a variety of modern art styles, colours and content to suit your taste and environment. And for businesses they can reflect the company décor and corporate identity.

All works are originals and mostly painted in oils on canvas by our artists. As such each work is unique, signed by the artist, and supplied with a certificate of authenticity.

We can also offer unique photo prints and graphic panels produced by our photographers. These again can be produced to order or from our gallery of examples.

It’s a matter of opinion as to when art became ‘modern’ but critics generally agree it began in the late nineteenth century with the French Impressionists. Artists such as Monet, Manet, and Pissarro were active in their work during a period of social change in France and in particular, Paris. The boom in transport, communication and industry led to an increasing freedom, notably in the leisure of the bourgeois population. The changes inspired artists to capture the reality of life surrounding them.

Impressionism was the start of many modernist movements such as Picasso and Cubism, Malevich and Suprematism, and Mondrian and Abstraction to name a few. Art evolved not only to reflect moments in time but also feelings and emotions. Artists such as Matisse used shape, colour and space to express emotion within their paintings. In time the figurative content gave way to more abstract imagery. A major step identified by the critics was a move of the ‘seat’ of modernism from France to the USA. Here art thrived in a period I consider to be a golden age starting just after the Second World War and including the works of the abstract expressionists, Pollock, Rothko and De Kooning.
